GHK (Glycyl-L-Histidyl-L-Lysine) is a naturally occurring human tripeptide first identified by Pickart and Thaler in 1973 from human plasma. This simple three-amino acid sequence (Gly-His-Lys) was discovered through its ability to cause aged human liver tissue to synthesize proteins characteristic of younger tissue. Unlike its copper-bound form GHK-Cu, GHK Basic is supplied without the copper ion, allowing researchers to control the metallopeptide chemistry of their experimental systems. GHK naturally chelates copper(II) with high affinity (log K = 16.44) and will readily form the GHK-Cu complex when copper is present, making this format ideal for studies requiring precise control over copper delivery and speciation.
