GHRP-6 — Hexapeptide Ghrelin Receptor Agonist for GH Secretion Research
GHRP-6 is a synthetic hexapeptide GHS-R1a agonist developed by Bowers et al. (Endocrinology, 1984). Among the earliest synthetic GH secretagogues, it stimulates pituitary GH release through a mechanism distinct from GHRH.
Mechanism of Action
GHRP-6 binds GHS-R1a, activating PLC and IP3/DAG signaling for calcium release and GH exocytosis. Complementary to GHRH (cAMP-PKA), explaining synergistic GH release when combined. Also suppresses somatostatin and stimulates appetite via NPY/AgRP neurons.
