ARA-290 — Innate Repair Receptor Agonist for Neuroprotection Research
ARA-290 (Cibinetide) is an 11-amino acid peptide derived from erythropoietin (EPO) that selectively activates the innate repair receptor (IRR), a heterocomplex of EPO receptor and CD131. Unlike EPO, it does not stimulate erythropoiesis. Published in Molecular Medicine (2008) by Brines et al.
Mechanism of Action
ARA-290 binds the IRR heterocomplex, triggering JAK2/STAT5 and PI3K/Akt cascades that promote cell survival and modulate inflammatory cytokines. It suppresses NF-κB activation and reduces TNF-α, IL-6, IL-1β in macrophage models. In neural tissue, it protects against ischemia-reperfusion injury.
